195 – You know what you want…you may not want to accept it

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short actual podcast for mamas who want more? I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. What if I told you through all this angst, all this confusion, trying to figure out what it is that you want trying to get clear on your life, that you already know the answer! You already know it, it’s there, you’ve probably already thought about it before, but may have just dismissed it. I am a strong believer that everyone really knows what they’re put on this earth to do, what is going to make you happy and how you are going to be a contribution to this world. And Mama’s daily dose is… You know what you want, you may just not want to hear it. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

No matter your religion, your beliefs, whatever. I strongly believe that everyone was put on this earth for a reason. And I think that everyone knows why they’re here. And what they need to do or who they need to become, to be the person that they want to be… that you really want to be. That is going to bring you joy and fulfillment, and excitement and just make you be that amazing person that you know you are capable of be.

The issue is, so many people do not listen to themselves. And they talk themselves out of it. And I know this, because I very much am one of those people. Last year, I was super confused. I was like, “hey, I want to start this business. But like, I really want to be around there for my kids. And it’s kind of taking time away from my kids. And I was just like, I don’t I don’t even know what I want. I can’t get clear on what I want. So I’m not happy, because I don’t know where I want to be.”

And I talked to a friend of mine, who also happens to be an amazing mindset coach. And he’s like, “Well, like, what do you really want?”

And I was like, “Well, I mean, I guess I just want to be somebody that is a mom, and is there for their kids. And that, you know, I volunteer my time, or I do what I can outside of that. But that that’s like my main focus. But I don’t know it doesn’t feel right…”

And he’s like, “Why doesn’t it feel right?”

I’m like, “you know, I just don’t want to be one of those white suburban moms that is just a stay at home mom, and volunteers in her free time.”

And he goes, “Well, what’s wrong with that?”

I’m said, “I mean, I guess nothing really. I mean, it’s pretty admirable to want to be a great mom and be there for your kids and be in a position where I can do that. And really, there’s nothing wrong with like volunteering my time, and helping other people..”

But I just didn’t want to listen to that. Because I grew up around all these working moms and I thought I was going to be a working mom. I thought it was very pretentious to stay at home and just volunteer my time. But it’s not…that’s awesome. If you have the time, and the space, the energy, the money, whatever, to volunteer. That’s amazing, no matter who you are. But I was feeling guilty. Because of all these outside noises and beliefs that I had. That I didn’t want to listen to what I really wanted to do.

And I know you have probably gone through the same thing, you’ve probably thought this is what I want to do and then you talk yourself out of it. But that is what you really want to do. It doesn’t matter what other people say. What other people think. It’s what you want. It’s what’s going to bring you joy.

Mama, your action today is to get a little quiet. And just ask yourself, “what do I want?” What is the first thing that comes to mind when you ask yourself that and then see what kind of resistance comes up with it. What’s talking back to you thats like “no, you can’t do that. You shouldn’t want to do that.” Where do those come from? What is the resistance to what you want? Because really mama…you know what you want. Have a fabulous weekend and a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
