193 – 3 steps to figuring out what you want

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short, actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. We are continuing our talk on what you want. What do you want? How do you figure out what you want, once again, the Cheesecake Factory menu of life, so many things to choose from, how do you choose? And Mama’s daily dose is… how to find out what you really want. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

Mama, I have three steps for you today to start figuring your sh*t out, and what it is that you really want.

Number 1, is to get quiet. And I understand this can be super difficult with kids running around because they are not the quietest human beings. But in order to figure out what it is that you really want, you gotta listen to yourself. I am a big believer in that everyone really knows what they want to do. You know what’s gonna bring you joy, and happiness and what’s going to make you feel fulfilled. But not everyone wants to accept that. And we’re going to talk about this a little bit more on Friday. But make that space to listen to yourself. Start small, maybe 30 seconds a day. Just sit and quiet. And listen to yourself.

Number 2, what do you get excited about? What brings you joy? What do you wake up in the morning, you’re like, “oh my gosh, I am so jacked to go do______!” What is it that really brings you joy that really lights you up? That you were just so excited about that, if you could do it every day, that would be just like frickin fantastic.

Number 3 is your zone of genius. We all have something that you know, just clicks a little bit more for us than it does for other people. And you may not realize it, because it’s kind of always been with you. But what are things that people always ask you about? What do people come to you for? And ask for advice on? What do your friends say that you’re really good at? What were you really good at as a kid? These are things that will give you insight into that zone of genius.

Figuring out what you really want as a mom is not the easiest thing. You’re being pulled in so many different directions. But you need to listen to yourself too so the three steps and figuring out what it is that you want:

1. get quiet 
2. what brings you joy? 
3. What is your zone of genius?

Mama, your action today is to pick one of these three steps, at least one and do it today. So either:

1. Get quiet
2. Make a list of things that bring you joy.
3. Make a list of the things in your zone of genius.
