192 – What do you even want?

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. The number one thing I hear Mamas talk about all the time, whether their kids are newborns, or they are empty nesters is “I don’t know what I want. I don’t know what I want to do. I don’t know who I want to be.” And we touched on this a little bit last Tuesday as well, in Episode 187. And we talked about how becoming a mom changes you, as much as you say, “it’s not going to” or you don’t want it to… it does. It changes who you are, what you want, and what you want to become. And that is why I created the quiz. “I’m a mom, What the F*** Do I Want Now?” Because so many moms are walking around, they’re confused, not knowing what they want. And if you don’t know what you want, how do you know where you’re going? How can you truly be happy if you don’t know what it is that’s going to make you happy? And Mama’s daily dose is…What do you even want? Lets get moving before we get interrupted.

Okay, Mama, so have you been to the Cheesecake Factory, and you look at their menu, and it is just pages upon pages upon pages. I don’t even know how many times I’ve been to the Cheesecake Factory, but I think I’ve only ever ordered two things because it is just so overwhelming with the options that are on that menu. I just I can’t go through it. And that’s like life, right? There are so many options in life. So many things that you can do. You can become an artist, you can be a stay at home mom, you can be an executive, you could go travel the world, you could make up some job. It is totally up to you. But sometimes that is so overwhelming, like that Cheesecake Factory menu, that there’s so many things to choose from, that you just don’t want to choose. And then you feel like locked in when you have to make a choice, right? \

You’re at Cheesecake Factory. You’re like, “Oh my God, I don’t know what I want” and the waiter comes up.

They’re like, “hey, what would you like to order today?”

You’re like, “Oh, my God, I don’t know. I don’t know. Okay, okay, I’ll get the Bang Bang Shrimp. Oh my gosh, do I really want the Bang, Bang Shrimp? I got that before. I don’t know, it’s not the choice that I want to go with…. like, this seems like a big commitment.”

And that’s just the Cheesecake Factory and what you’re eating for lunch! And trying to decide what you want in life…that’s way more overwhelming than what you want from Cheesecake Factory. There are so many options out there. But the cool thing is, it is up to you to choose what you want to do. It doesn’t have to be what anyone else wants to do.

You know, inside of you what you really want to do, I strongly believe that everyone knows; everyone has a calling. But not everyone listens to it. We have all these other voices and everything outside of us… and also inside of us telling us, “You can’t do it. You can’t do it.” But I do believe that you know what it is that you want to do what you want, and what is going to make you happy. And if you don’t know yet, keep listening the rest of this week, we’re going to tie this all up. I promise you.

Mama, your action today is to write down one thing that you want in the next year. What is it that you really want? Not what society wants of you, not what your partner wants. Not what your parents anybody else… What do you really want in this next year? And if you are still super confused on what you want as a mom, which is totally normal, once again, Cheesecake Factory menu, take the quiz, “I’m a Mom, What the F*** Do I Want Now? Two minute quiz to get you thinking about what it is that you really want in the future and who you want to be. Check it out at allyoumama.com. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
