175 – What happens when you want conflicting things?

Hey mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mama’s daily dose is… what happens when we want conflicting things. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

Y’all, the brain is such a funny thing. And we tend to want things that conflict with one another. We want to have success. But we actually fear success. Because success is the unknown. Success is breaking out of culture and societal norms, success is changing. We also want hope we want that hope that we are going to have that future that we envision that we’re going to be the person that we want to be. But then we also fear that hope, because we don’t want to let ourselves down. What if we don’t get there? So now we’re scared. And we’re fearful again, we fear being alone. But as a mom, you also want alone time. Right? You know, like when you’re so overwhelmed during the day with your child, and then you’re like, Oh, my God, I just need to make it to bedtime. And you finally make it to bedtime. And then you find yourself sitting there like scrolling through photos of your kid like missing your kid, when two minutes ago, you’re you would do anything just to get them into bed. It’s the same thing your brain like you want conflicting things. So what ends up winning out is that fear. Remember that amygdala is always going to process that fear first, unless you consciously change it.

Mama, your action today is to figure out what is conflicting, like what is something that you want, but is conflicting with it? Like, do you want to start a new business, but you’re afraid you’re going to lose time with your kids, or you want to lose weight, but you don’t want to lose the social time that you have with your friends and your family? Write down what it is and find out, are they really conflicting? Or how can you change your point of view and your beliefs to get them to work together? Mama have a fantastic Friday. Have a fabulous weekend. And I will see you on Monday and have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
