146 – Go READ! Books for Moms

Hey Mama, this is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short, actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Welcome to the last week of 2021, I hope you had a fantastic holiday. And before you burden yourself with getting all those decorations down and cleaning everything up, I just want you to take some time and really think about what you want and look into this next year because it’s coming up at the end of this week, we will be in 2022. And that is when you start thinking about what goals you want to set what you want to achieve what the next year is going to look like mama Do you currently read? If you don’t, I highly suggest you make that one of your goals for the new year. There are so many benefits to reading. It sparks your imagination, you’ll learn some more vocabulary. And it’s just a great example to set for your kids. Anything that you want to learn is available in books and you know what, it is free. There are libraries all across this country and the world that you can get free books. And Mama’s daily dose is… go read. Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

Mama, you have time to read. I know you do. Let’s not even bring that excuse out of the I don’t have the time. And I already said before. You don’t even need the money to do it. Go to your library. And if you don’t want to go to the library, if you don’t have time to go out, go on Amazon, they deliver right to your front door. So to inspire you to get reading, I’m going to give you my top three favorite fiction and nonfiction books of 2021. If you don’t already follow me on Instagram, head on over @MeghanQBarrett. And that’s Meghan with an H. And I have pictures and highlights on there of all the books that I have read in the past three years.

So we’ll start with fiction.

Number three “Piece of My Heart”

Number two “American Dirt.”

And number one, “Verity.” Oh my gosh, “Verity” was such a mind blowing book like I did not see that ending coming at all.

And then I also read a lot of biographies, autobiographies and personal development books, I’m always reading at least one personal development book at a time, sometimes multiple. So here are my favorite nonfiction books of this year.

Number three “Green Lights” by Matthew McConaughey. Listen to the audiobook. Usually I’m not super into audio books, I like to read a physical book. But his voices that he uses, first of all, his voice is just sexy as it is. But then, when he imitates Australian accents and stuff, it’s just great. So listen to that one.

Number two “Atomic Habits.” Love this one, it is a great one to listen to in the new year, I have listened to it or read it the past three or four years now. And it’s just kind of that jumpstart you need in the new year to get those new habits in line and to drop some of those old habits that you don’t want anymore, either.

And number one, I think everybody should read this book – “Personality isn’t Permanent.” If you think that you can’t change or I was born this way with this personality, that’s just who I am. That’s BS, you can change. Anybody can change. You can have whatever personality that you want to have. And you need to embody that personality that you want to be in the future.

So go read, grab one of these books, go look on my Instagram, grab another book, there’s so many suggestions, just go get a book.

Mama, your action today is to go get a book, go to the library, go on Amazon, go into a bookstore, whatever you need to do. Just go get a book and read one page today. That’s all you got to do. Get a book, read one page and have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
