117 – What’s new and good?

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s daily dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Your daily reminder to write down the three things that you are grateful for today. And Mama’s daily doses is…what’s new and good? Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

What do most people say when they encounter someone? You’re like, Hey, what’s up? How you doing? They say Good. How are you doing? Good. And that’s it. You didn’t learn anything about each other. You never really connected, there really wasn’t much point to saying those things. Instead of just acknowledging someone, you could just say, hi, and save a little bit of time. But if you really want to create a connection with people and learn things about people, instead of saying how are you go up to someone and say, Hey, what’s new and good? And first of all, what’s going to happen is they’re just going to say, Good, because we are so used to someone saying, Hey, how are you? And you just say, good. It’s just like an automatic thing. We don’t even think about it. Our conscious mind isn’t even involved in it. It’s just our subconscious, because it is just habit. So the first time you’re not really going to get an answer, and then they’re gonna be like, whoa, whoa, wait, you didn’t ask me how I was. And you’re like, Yeah, I asked, What’s New, and good. And so that forces people to think like, Hey, what is going on in my life? What’s something new in my life? What’s something that’s good in my life, this will help the other person focus on the positives in their life. And then that will help you to focus on the positives in your life too. Because as we’ve talked on other episodes, what you give out and that energy that you give out, is what you’re going to get back. So I love using this question, making people think a little bit more. Plus, I really like awkward situations, it makes things a little bit awkward. But you actually learn something about someone. And then you can have a conversation about that if you want to. You can find something that you connect on. Or you can learn something new, learn something new about that person. So the next time you run into someone, make sure to ask, Hey, what’s new and good?
