Hey mama. This is Mama’s daily dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Happy Veterans Day, and thank you to all those that serve, have served and continue to serve our country and other countries as well. Thursday is quote, day, and today’s quote comes from Oprah, “how you spend your time defines who you are.” Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.
You are what you do most of the time. Sometimes we like to think of ourselves on our best days, where we get to do all the things that we want to do or that we find healthy, you wake up early, you go to the gym, you’re in a great mood with your kids. I got all the things done on my to do list, I just signed a new client, whatever it is, you had a rockstar day. But that’s not every single day, every single day, are you going to the gym every single day? Are you eating healthy every single day? Are you patient with your kids? Probably not. If you are, then that’s who you are. But you are what you do most of the time, not some of the time. So take a look at where you are spending your time and what you are doing. Are you spending your time on activities and things that are going to get you to your goals, or what you feel is the best use of your time. We did this in Selfish Mamas Club, where I actually had everyone write down every single thing that you do in the day, like I wake up, I go pee, I take a shower, I drink my coffee, and then rating each of those as being effective, not effective or neutral. And I don’t like to use positive or negative because a habit or something that we do is not inherently positive or negative, it could be positive for one person negative for another. So is it effective for you and your goals? Or is it not effective for you and your goals? And just take a look at your list? And where are you spending most of your time? On effective things, or on not effective things, or just neutral things in general? Take a look at where you are spending your time because that is a mirror to who you actually are. And you get to choose where you spend your time. Yes, there are things that we have to get done during the day. But where are you choosing to spend your time. There’s a lot of these pockets of time that we talked about that I got from Kiana’s interview and I love that phrase now “pockets of time.” So what are you using those pockets of time for? Are you using them to watch TV? to scroll the internet? Or are you using them to spend one on one time with your kids or build a business or get some quiet time for yourself, reflect, meditate? Because it is all those pockets of time that are going to define who you are.
So Mama, who do you want to be? And is that who you currently are? Where you are spending your time? Is that who you want to be? If it’s not, take a look at one small change that you can make today. What is something that you can do today that is in line with who you want to be? And don’t forget to write down your three gratitudes for the day as well, grab that journal, And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
