82 – You don’t have to make your life about your kids to be a good mom. Part 2

Hey Mama, this is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mama’s Daily Dose is… the second part of yesterday’s – You don’t have to make your life about your kids to be a good mom. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

If you didn’t tune in yesterday, I started the conversation on this topic about being a “good mom.” So if you haven’t listened to it yet, go check out Episode 81. And the next part that I’m going to work on is the part about making your life about your kids. You’re a mom, and that is a 24/7 job. But that doesn’t mean that you have to be engulfed in your children 24/7. You need to take care of yourself, and you need to model for your kids the confidence and taking care of themselves too. Otherwise they’re going to grow up thinking that their worth is tied to being selfless, and taking care of other people. When it’s not, your worth is tied to you, you being alive. And you being here. Just the fact that you were born and you are here on Earth, you are worthy of anything that you want. And we need to show that to our children too. And the way that we show them that is through our confidence, and taking care of ourselves and going after our dreams.

You are responsible for your children and you need to take care of them and you DO take care of them. But there’s a huge difference between taking care of them and making your life about your children. You need to make your life about you. It is your life. You only have one life and you are responsible for it. You’re responsible for modeling it for your children, that they will then go out and be responsible for their lives as well.

As with many episodes, the moral of the story is to take care of yourself. Put yourself first because you matter mama. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
