65 – Super mama powers!

Hey Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Happy Friday Mama, you made it to the end of the week! And Mama’s Daily Dose is… super mama powers. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted. Pretty much like how my cat is right now. (as cat meows and interrupts!)

We all have these mom super powers that tend to come out sometimes. And Robert Bridges of Tufts University says that it’s not really maternal instinct. It’s more maternal unmasking, that we all have this hidden potential in us. But it also kind of explains why it doesn’t come out. And some people that you know, not every female needs to become a mother. But once we do become mothers, I feel like we almost get these superpowers, right. It’s like, you know how your child is going to react to a situation. You hear these crazy stories of moms lifting up cars to save their children and things like that.

And I have a story about my one of my mom powers, not quite as cool as lifting up a car. But we were at this park and my four year old was climbing up this ladder, and was on the top of the play structure there and was pretending to fix a satellite. And so I was handing him pieces of mulch that were his different tools. He’s like, I need a hammer, I need a wrench and I would grab those and I went to go grab one of the tools. And as I turned around, I heard this noise. And I just put my hand out. And basically what happened was Anderson, let go and slipped and he had to be about like, eight or nine feet up. And he slipped and started falling down this ladder, and I just, I wasn’t even looking, I put my arm behind me. And I grabbed his hand as he was falling. Before he totally hit the ground, he would have like, hit his head and his whole body on the ground from all the way up there. But I grabbed his arm. And so he gently went down to the ground and I have no idea how that happened! It was just like this instinctual thing where I heard this noise and I put my arm out and it just happened to be in the exact right spot at the right time to grab his arm to make sure he didn’t totally fall… which is just absolutely crazy. I would have never thought that that was something that I could do to time that and everything. But it’s just this crazy mom power that comes up.
