34 – “While There Are Often Very Good Reasons to Change….”

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Welcome to quote Thursday, and Mama’s daily dose is… a quote from Ross Ellenhorn in his book, How We Change. “While there are often very good reasons to change, they’re often equally if not more attractive, and even sensible reasons to stay the same.” Let’s get a moving, before we get interrupted.

Reading “How We Change,” and specifically, this quote, really changed how I view change. Sorry, that was a lot of the word change. But I was always a person that was like, dude, if you don’t like something, then change it. Right? It’s got to be that simple. But as many of us know, it really isn’t that simple. And change is hard. That’s why a lot of people don’t do it. That’s why a lot of people make the same New Year’s resolutions, the same goals, year after year after year, but they still go back to the same way that it was before. And why is that? A lot of times, it’s because people see that change is the only option. When it really isn’t, staying the same, is actually making a choice, you’re choosing to stay the same. And that is your choice. You have to deal with the consequences of that choice. But if you decide to change, you have to deal with those consequences too. But change isn’t just as easy as being like, Hey, I don’t like what’s going on right now. I’m just going to change it. That’s why there are so many health coaches and mindset coaches and just fitness coaches and coaches in general because changing is extremely difficult. But what I really want to focus on in this podcast is not the actual change. But the fact that staying the same is a completely reasonable choice. And in most situations, staying the same, makes a lot more sense than changing. In order to change you 1, have to accept that you don’t like where you’re at right now. And that can be really difficult for people and then to you have to do things that you’ve never done before. whatever that may be. So change is super hard. But you know what, so is staying the same. But you are the one that gets to choose what you want to do, and both are valid choices.

Have a fantastic Thursday, and a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
