33 – 5 Minutes of Undivided Attention is Way Better Than 1 Hour of Distracted

Hey Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Continuing with our theme of the number five this week, Mama’s daily dose is.. five minutes of undivided attention is way better than one hour of distracted. Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

Once again, we are talking about how powerful just five minutes can be. And if there’s anything that I have learned since having children is that I can get so much done in a short period of undivided attention than I can in a whole day. If you give me five minutes, I can probably totally unload the dishwasher, reload it and make breakfast. If nobody is interrupting me at all, I will get all of that done. And I’ll probably have time to sit down and have a few sips of coffee too.

And this just rings true for everything. What I found spending time with my kids, it’s not the quantity of time, it’s really the quality of time. And I strive each day to have five minutes of uninterrupted time with each of my kids. So no phones, no TV, nothing like that. Just straight focusing on my kids for five minutes. And it has made such a difference. And I can connect with them so much more in that five minutes than I could sitting with them for one hour while I’m maybe looking at my phone, I’m trying to clean something they’re playing with something kind of we’re just in the same room, but not really connecting with one another. And on the same level, I would rather have five minutes to get my work done here. I can run in the closet right now and record two podcasts in about five minutes, just focused five minutes. But if I’m trying to record this podcast with my two kids running around, it’s probably not going to work out too well. So the next time you think I only have a little bit of time to do something, just know that five minutes of undivided attention can get way more done than an hour of being interrupted all the time. And I know that you know, what it’s like getting interrupted constantly.

Have a fantastic Wednesday, and Hey, remember, it’s still my birthday week. So if you’d like to give me a little gift, please drop a five star review on this podcast. I’d really appreciate it and have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it
