29 – “You have a first name”

Hey Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Happy Thursday. And we know what that means it is quote day. And Mama’s daily dose is.. a quote by myself… “You have a first name.” Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

I know it can sound so simple. And you know that you do have a first name. But sometimes it’s those super obvious things that we do forget. And if you’re not hearing your first name all the time. That’s how we can lose our identity too. So many moms talk about losing their identity, when they become a mother. And it’s like, overnight, I was no longer Meghan. I became Anderson’s mom, my life and my identity, and everything was now around this child. And then when my kid got older, and was hanging out with his friends, to all of his friends, I was Anderson’s mom. At preschool, I’m Anderson’s mom, all those places that know my kid. That is my title. – Anderson’s mom.

And I think that sometimes that we can forget that we do have a first name, and we have a role, kind of like how we talked about on Monday, you have a role, and you are a person outside of all those other roles too. Who are you for yourself, who is fill in the blank. And remind yourself every day that you do have a first name, even if you’re the one that’s greeting yourself with it, look in the mirror and say, “Hey, good morning, Meghan.” As crazy as that sounds, say your first name and help out your mama friends and say their names too. And just remind yourself that you are you. You aren’t just a role.

Thank you so much for listening. And if you don’t already, please make sure you give me a follow on Instagram @MeghanQBarrett. That’s Meghan with an H. I do have some fun surprises coming up next week for my birthday. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
