08 – I Don’t Know How To…YET

Hey Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com Mama’s Daily Dose is… “I don’t know how to…yet.” Let’s get moving. Before we get interrupted.

I’m definitely not the picture perfect parent. And my three and a half year old has dropped a couple f bombs and said some other unsavory words. However, the one thing that I will always correct is when he says that “I can’t” do something. And every time he says that, I correct it, too, “I don’t know how to…yet.” Because what that instills in him is that he can figure it out.

Not everything in life is going to come easy. Sometimes, you’re going to have to figure it out. And you may not figure it out the first time or the 10th time. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t do it. It just means you have to figure out another way.

I don’t want my kids growing up feeling like they can’t do things, because of whatever reason it is. You know, when you ask kids, what they want to be when they grow up, they have these big dreams. It’s like, at what age do we get beat down, and reality starts sticking in. And it’s like, Okay, let’s go with this safe dream because I know that I can do it.

I always want to dream big. And I want my kids to dream big. We’re only on this earth for so long. So we might as well do some big things. And the only way that those are going to get achieved is if we believe that we can. We don’t know how to do it yet, but you know what? We’re gonna figure it out.
